Kris Jenner Explains Meaning Behind “North” Baby Name

Kris Jenner has attempted to explain the strange name of her newest grandchild, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's 1-week-old daughter North West. In an interview on The View to promote her upcoming talk show Kris, Jenner said Kim and Kanye didn’t pick the name North just because of Kanye’s last name.

“The way [Kim] explained it to me was that North means highest power, and she says that North is their highest point together and I thought that was really sweet,” she explained.

“It's North West, but you don't walk around calling somebody, ‘Hi North West.’ It's just North,” she said, adding that Kim and Kanye are considering a nickname for the baby. Jenner said she does not know “what they’ve decided on.”

As for her opinion on the name, Jenner said she is “pro-North, absolutely.”

Kim, 32, gave birth to North on Saturday, June 15. Although North was born about 5 weeks early and weighed just 4 lbs. 15 oz, she is healthy and has already left the hospital. Kim and Kanye have yet to speak publicly about her birth. The new family is said to be living at Jenner’s home while their own $9 million Bel Air mansion is renovated.

Kim Kardashian’s baby girl is not even a week old and she is already being deemed a beauty. According to a close friend who visited Kardashian in the hospital, the baby is "the prettiest, tiniest thing with a full head of straight, dark hair, a cute little nose and Kim's lips.”

"She's already smiling!" says the insider.

It’s that smile that already has proud dad Kanye West smitten. Kardashian’s pal Larsa Pippen told New York Daily News that West is “in love with the baby” and “doesn’t leave the room.”

Meanwhile, it remains unclear if the little girl has a name yet. Insiders previously said Kardashian and West were close to choosing a name. The name will reportedly start with a ‘K’ to continue the Kardashian family tradition of ‘K’ names for the girls.

It remains unclear when Kardashian and West will take their daughter home since she was born 3 to 5 weeks premature. Despite her early arrival, she is said to be healthy.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian and rapper Kanye West are celebrating the birth of their first child after the baby arrived five weeks early on Saturday morning (15Jun13), according to reports.



The little girl was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.



Kardashian, 32, was not due to give birth until early July (13) but sources suggest both mother and baby are in good health.



The newborn's father reportedly pulled out of a launch party for his new album, Yeezus, on Friday night (14Jul13) when his girlfriend started having contractions.



Insiders claim he was present throughout the delivery.



West's rapper friend Nas took to Twitter.com to react to the happy news, writing, "Congrats (sic) to Kanye for the birth of his daughter today... To my bros w/ (with) daughters!" while hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons added, "There is no greater gift in life than a child's laughter! Congrats to Kim and Kanye."
