Prince William Says Goodbye To Royal Air Force

He’s served faithfully as a search and rescue pilot for the past seven years, and now Prince William has announced he’ll move on from his post with the Royal Air Force.



With his new found free time, the Duke of Cambridge will “expand his work in the field of conservation, particularly in respect to endangered species.”



William will also work closely with the Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry for philanthropic ventures.



A statement from a Royal spokesperson reads, “The Duke will continue to work with his charities on issues relating to children and young people, veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces. The Duke is currently considering a number of options for public service, a further announcement on which will follow in due course.”

Prince George Heads Home To London's Kensington Palace

As they prepare to leave the comfort of their first home in Wales, this week’s special double issue of PEOPLE reports on Prince William and Princess Kate as they adjust to life with 5-week-old son Prince George and get ready for the next chapter. The couple’s new normal means sleepless nights and diaper duty for the happy family of three – four, counting beloved cocker spaniel Lupo – transitioning into a new life.



He’s only been at this royal baby thing for a little more than a month, but Prince George has already mastered the job’s two main duties: 1) getting bigger; and 2) thoroughly exhausting his parents. While the future king – a “little bit of a rascal…he either reminds me of my brother or me,” William told CNN – continues to exert his newborn authority, his mom and dad are working their way through a to-do list that include settling on godparents, packing up their first home – an idyllic four-bedroom farmhouse in Anglesey, Wales for the grandeur of Kensington Palace in London, and scheduling their first joint engagement since welcoming George on July 22. Amid all the change, how are the new parents feeling? “On a scale of 1 to 10, it must be near a 10,” says a close family friend. “Everything is spot-on and they’re tremendously happy.”



One constant throughout all the change, however, remains the couple’s steadfast determination to do things their way, including the decision to have the heir’s first portraits snapped by Kate’s dad, Michael Middleton, 64. “Once again William wants a new way of being royal, which is what his mother always wanted,” says royals author Judy Wade. Don’t look for William and Kate to strictly conform to traditional expectations. “I am as independent as I want to be, same as Catherine and Harry. We’ve all grown up differently to other generations,” William told CNN.

Kate Middleton Set to Return to Royal Duties in September

British royal Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, will return to official duties next month for the first time since the birth of her son Prince George of Cambridge.



The Duchess and her husband, Prince William, welcomed their first child on July 22 and the young family have since been staying with her family in Berkshire, England.



Prince William has made several public engagements since the birth while the duchess has remained out of the public eye, but she will join her husband at the Tusk Conservation Awards dinner held by bosses at charity Tusk Trust.



A Kensington Palace spokesman confirmed that the Duchess would be attending the glittering gala, saying the date was a "long-standing engagement".



The Prince, who is second in line to the throne, is a patron of the charity, which aims to protect wildlife across Africa, and has even lent his name to one of the awards - the Prince William Award for Conservation in Africa.



The prizegiving will take place at the Draycott Hotel in London on Sept. 12.

Royal Baby Named George Alexander Louis

Baby Cambridge now has a name! Prince William and Kate Middleton announced Wednesday they have named their 3-day-old son George Alexander Louis. His official title is His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge. He is third in line to the throne behind dad Prince William and grandfather Prince Charles.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son George Alexander Louis. The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge,” reads a statement released by Kensington Palace.

Middleton gave birth to George Monday in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London. The newborn made his first public appearance the following day outside the hospital. After posing for pictures, the new family headed to Kensington Palace. They spent the night there Tuesday and left for the Bucklebury home of Middleton’s parents earlier today. A palace spokesperson told Us Weekly the Duke and Duchess are taking some “private and quiet time for them to get to know their son.”

Prince William and Catherine Thank Hospital Staff in Joint Statement

Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge have thanked hospital staff for the "tremendous care" they have received following the birth of their baby boy on Monday, July 22.



The royal couple welcomed a son at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London and the new parents are grateful for the help from medical staff.



A statement issued on Tuesday, July 23 reads: “We would like to thank the staff at the Lindo Wing and the whole hospital for the tremendous care the three of us have received. We know it has been a very busy period for the hospital and we would like to thank everyone - staff, patients and visitors - for their understanding during this time.”



Prince William's uncle, Charles Spencer, has added his congratulations to the many well wishes already received.



He tells People.com in a statement, "Such lovely news."



Spencer also recalled memories of his nephew's birth 31 years ago, when he was an 18-year-old student.



He continues, "The teacher rushed into my bedroom to tell me the good news, a bottle of champagne in his hands. Now, 31 years on... we're celebrating this family addition with just as much happiness."



The Duchess' parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, were the first official visitors to see the new baby on Tuesday.

It's A Boy For Will and Kate!

Prince William and Kate Middleton became parents of an 8 lb. 6 ounce baby boy late Monday afternoon.



Both mother and child were reported doing well and will remain in the hospital overnight.



Prince William was present for the birth at 4:24 p.m., according to a press release from the royal household.



The release also said the name of the baby, the couple’s first, would be announced “in due course.”



The baby will be third in line to the throne after his grandfather, Prince Charles, and his father.



Crowds massed outside Buckingham Palace where a formal announcement of the baby’s birth was posted to cheers Monday night.



The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at St. Mary’s Hospital – where William and his brother Harry also were born – early Monday morning.   Read more> 

Kate Middleton In Labor At St. Mary’s Hospital, Labor Is “Progressing Normally”

The wait for the royal baby is almost over! Kensington Palace confirmed Kate Middleton checked into St. Mary’s Hospital in London shortly before 6 o’clock this morning after her labor began naturally. Middleton and Prince William were reportedly accompanied to the hospital by a security team. They made their way to the Lindo Wing through the Cambridge entrance, which is the same entrance Prince Diana used when she arrived at St. Mary’s to give birth to Prince William in the Lindo Wing in 1982.



"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has been admitted this morning to St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London in the early stages of labour," Kensington Palace said in a statement. "The Duchess traveled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary's Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge."



The Lindo Wing staff said they are “exceptionally proud that this historic moment is happening here.”



Middleton’s labor is said to be “progressing normally.” Once she delivers the baby, a written declaration revealing the baby's gender, weight and time of birth will be posted on an easel outside Buckingham Palace. That information will also be released electronically.

Pregnant Kate Middleton Headed To London

A heavily pregnant Kate Middleton is reportedly en route to London from her parents’ Bucklebury home with Prince William. It remains unclear if Middleton is in labor and is headed to St. Mary’s Hospital, or if she is headed to Kensington Palace to await the baby’s arrival there. The baby is due any day now.



A royal rep refused to confirm Middleton has left Bucklebury. "We wouldn't comment on the exact whereabouts of the Duke and Duchess – we wouldn't normally do so in their private time,” the rep said Friday.



Last week, the Duchess of Cambridge made a secret visit to St. Mary’s for a checkup on the baby’s progress. She will give birth at the facility’s Lindo Wing, where Princess Diana delivered Prince William and Prince Harry.



St. Mary’s has been prepared for Middleton’s arrival since July 1. Parking outside the Lindo Wing has been suspended for the entire month and dozens of ladders for photographers have already been stationed outside the building.

Kate Middleton Makes Secret Trip To St. Mary’s Hospital

As the world awaits the first report of the birth of Britain’s royal heir, a witness says Kate Middleton made a secret visit to St. Mary’s Hospital in London this week. The visit was not because she had gone into labor; the witness says it was simply a checkup to monitor the baby’s progress.



“I was at St. Mary’s with Kate Middleton [and] I was told it was a checkup,” the witness tells RadarOnline.com.



Middleton’s due date was on Thursday. Preparations for the baby’s arrival are already well underway at St. Mary's. Parking outside the Lindo Wing, where the Duchess of Cambridge will give birth, has been suspended for the entire month of July. Dozens of ladders for photographers have already been stationed outside the hospital in anticipation for the so the newborn’s first appearance as he or she leaves the hospital with Middleton and Prince William. Earlier today, a team of Metropolitan Police officers conducted a thorough security sweep in and around Lindo Wing.



"It's standard procedure when there is royalty due, and with what's happening here, we have to take extra precaution,” an officer told People magazine.

Prince Harry Qualifies As Apache Aircraft Commander

Britain's Prince Harry is moving up in the army ranks after qualifying as an Apache Aircraft Commander.



The current third-in-line to the throne, known as Captain Wales, passed a six-hour test earlier this week (begs01Jul13) and can now take full charge of the aircraft he co-piloted during a stint in war-torn Afghanistan.



His commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Tom de la Rue, says, "This is a tremendous achievement for Captain Wales who passed with flying colours. I am delighted that his new status as a qualified Apache Aircraft Commander and Co-Pilot Gunner places him at the very top of his profession."



The prince, 28, serves in the 3 Regiment Army Air Corps of the British Army.



Prince Harry will be bumped to fourth-in-line to the throne when his brother William welcomes his first child later this month (Jul13).
